Wilks calculator

The older of the two relative-strength scores, and still the one most gyms argue in. Same job as DOTS: one number that survives a difference in bodyweight.

Wilks score

Enter a lift and a bodyweight

What the coefficient is

A multiplier that depends only on your bodyweight: around 1.3 at the lightest competition weights, 0.61 at 100 kg, and still falling after that. Your score is simply the weight lifted times that number, which is why the coefficient is shown next to it — it is the part that actually says something about the comparison.

Questions this raises

Is Wilks still used?
In conversation, constantly. In federations, less and less — the IPF stopped using it at the end of 2018 and several others followed with their own systems. There is also a revised Wilks from 2020, with different coefficients and a different scale, which is not what this page calculates. If a number has to match an official result, check which system that federation publishes before comparing anything.
Why is my Wilks different from my DOTS?
They are two different curves fitted to two different sets of results, so they disagree by a few percent — usually under three. The gap widens at the ends of the scale, which is exactly where Wilks was criticised: it was fitted to equipped lifting from 1987 to 1994, and the lightest and heaviest lifters came off worse than those in the middle. DOTS was built to take some of that out.
